Using the SSES File Server

(Note: The goal here is to make an online home for the mp3 file of your podcast. You need a URL, or web address, for your audio data. Below are instructions for generating a URL using the SSES file server, though the same can be accomplished through Dropbox as well. with the added advantage that Dropbox can be accessed off campus.)

To access your SSES file server space using a school computer, simply click the key icon labeled "File Server Logon" and login.

Here are guidelines for connecting to the file server from your personal computer when on-campus. (Note: The academic file server is still only accessible from on-campus.)

Windows Users:

You can download the setup.exe for the new file server application here.

Download the setup.exe and run it on your Windows-PC.

Mac users:
There is not an application to connect from a Mac.

In the Finder, select Go > Connect to server.

Type in the following line in the field (with the underlined portions replaced by your specific info):
      smb://sstx-files.sstx.org/home/student/yearofgraduation/first.lastname

(where "yearofgraduation" is your year of graduation and "first.lastname" is your official SSES user name, your first name followed by your last name separated by a period)

You will be prompted for your SSES password.

Once you have accessed your SSES file server account, you will add your mp3 file to the "public_html" folder.

If you don't see this option, the create a folder with the exact name "public_html" ("public" underscore "html") and save your audio file there.
